This website was created and is maintained by Neil Whyte and Keith Waddell, two members of Cantiamo.
The original design is heavily based on the andreas01 template, used with kind permission of Andreas Viklund. The site is maintained using freeware tools, with Notepad++ and The GIMP particularly heavily used, and 34sp.com provides our hosting.
This site is coded in valid XHTML 1.0 Strict, and each page is passed through the W3C Markup Validation Service to ensure cross-platform compatibility before it is uploaded. Additionally, the styling is provided using a Cascading Style Sheet and again this is coded in valid CSS 2.1 and passed through the W3C CSS Validation Service prior to upload.
Why is this so important? In the past it was pretty much guaranteed that anyone viewing a website would be using a computer, and it would probably be running either Internet Explorer or Netscape. You only had to test your website for clarity on two browsers, and therefore could see how the vast majority of your viewers would view your site.
Nowadays there is a vast array of browsers out there (Firefox, Opera, Google Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer to name only the major ones), plus the hardware used could be a PC, a Mac, a mobile phone or perhaps even a kiosk in your local shopping centre! It's no longer feasible to check your website on every possible combination of browser and hardware: making your code standards-compliant gives you the best chance of not excluding any viewers of your website.
